From GMs forgotten one-off in the 90s, the electric vehicle market has truly exploded. From 2020 to 2021 alone, EV sales in the US more than doubled. 2022 marked the milestone of 10 million EVs sold. There are even estimates that by 2030, 40% of all vehicles will be electric. While the EV isnt poised to take over their gas-powered siblings just yet, their presence continues to be felt on American roads.

Tips for Maintaining an Electric Vehicle

Battery Maintenance

The battery is the beating heart of any electric vehicle and keeping your EVs battery well-maintained is essential.

  • Avoid extreme temps if possible. Extreme hot or cold is extremely detrimental to an EVs battery. 
  • Dont use fast chargers exclusively. While convenient, fast charging stations can reduce the life of your vehicles battery. And in most cases, they are the more expensive option.
  • Dont fully charge or deplete your battery. This is another factor that could reduce your EVs battery life. For daily use, most EV manufacturers recommend charging the battery to between 85% and 90%. 

Because of the electric motor regenerative braking function (learn more about regenerative braking here), the brake pads of an EV degrade slower than in a gas-powered vehicle. That being said, its still important to keep a close eye on brake fluid and pads.


The tires of an EV are especially important. Because of an EVs extra weight, tires will likely wear faster than with a normal vehicle. Its also important to note that some EV manufacturers will use tires with a shallower tread depth to maximize the EVs range. And while it may mean extra miles, it also means that you may be replacing your tires sooner.
